How to Handle Lillies

[caption id="attachment_25" align="alignleft" width="175" caption="Arranged Lillies"][/caption]We often get asked how best to handle lillies. Because Lilly pollen can stain you should arefully remove stamens from any newly opened flowers and avoid direct contact. It is also recommended that you do not place flowers or plants directly onto unprotected work surfaces. Some flowers and plants can cause irritation or be harmfull. Incase of irritation, wash affected area with cold water. Do not touch irritated skin and see a doctor if symptoms persist. Keep out of reach of small children and pets.

Caring for Cut Flowers

Caring for Cut Flowers

[caption id="attachment_18" align="alignleft" width="138" caption="Keeping cut flowers"][/caption]The number one consideration when caring for cut flowers is to ensure the longest life possible. When cutting flowers you should awlays trim the stem at an angle. Take care not to crush the stems (When using scissors) It is much better to use a very sharp knife or a flower cutting tool. Once trimmed, place them in a clean, non metalic containing flower food (if supplied) If not there are several natural methods including 2tps sugar or even a little lemonade!. Fill the vase with lukewarm water making sure that no leaves are underwater.
Display your flowers in a cool, shady place away from draughts, direct heat or sunlight. Always remove any fading flowers. When changing the water, bleach the vase and rinse to kill the old bacteria. Leaving them in a dirty vase will shorten the life of your flowers.
